Greetings from the Cornerstone staff!
We are excited to be working in Deer Park and look forward to meeting you soon. But first, you probably have some questions.
Q: What is Cornerstone?
A: Cornerstone is an after school program that allows students to earn credit for classes. Using Project Based Learning, a student and a Cornerstone advisor will design a project that the student finds interesting and that also meets specific state standards. This way, students can find a way to engage a topic and use their strengths to enhance the learning process.
Q: Who are the Cornerstone advisors?
A: Michelle Cregger is the Science/Math advisor. She is originally from Moses Lake, WA and has spent the last few years teaching in Oregon. Justin Hopkins is the English/History advisor. He is from Olympia and taught last year in Lacey, WA.
Q: Can anyone come to Cornerstone?
A: Any student in grades 10-12 can come to Cornerstone, so long as they are enrolled in an area high school or in the Home Link program.
Q: When and where does Cornerstone meet?
A: Currently we are meeting from 3-6 PM, Monday through Thursday at our office next to the laundry mat. The address is 110 East Crawford Street.
Q: Is Cornerstone only for students who have failed classes?
A: Absolutely not!
Q: Besides credit retrieval, what other activities are offered at Cornerstone?
A: Cornerstone is a place where students can design an elective credit of their own. They can also come to work on homework, get help with assignments, and design a culminating project. We hope to provide some fun and educational student directed enrichment opportunities.
